Quotes and Thoughts for the Day

So I have some sad news. My rooster died. Yesterday I was in such a hurry to let them out of the coop before church that I didn't bother to count them. Later that day I went out to give them some scraps, I was surprised that Zorro (my rooster) wasn't running out to share in the treats, so I went to look in the coop and found him. It didn't look like a predator got him (no signs of entry either), he was intact and he had his head tucked under his wing like he was sleeping. My guess is he died in his sleep, but he had showed no signs of being sick or dying the previous days. Doing all I can to boost the hens immune system and to make sure they don't get sick.

:hugs

I am very sorry to hear of your loss. It's never easy to lose a beloved flock member. It's comforting to know he died peacefully in his sleep. Hopefully it was from natural causes (and it sounds to me like it was).

I have a hen on the mend in my flock right now. She's a four year old Dark Brahma who has a bad case of bumblefoot. I did "surgery" on her feet two days ago. Tonight I'm going to unwrap her bandages and probably soak her feet a little, add some Neosporin and wrap them again. My first time with bumblefoot of this severity. I let it progress too long and she has a limp as a result.
Her days seem numbered but I'm doing my best for her. Hopefully she will regain her mobility and her feet are healing under those bandages. We will find out soon enough. :/

I'm terribly sorry you lost your rooster. It's always tough when we lose a valued member of our flocks. I hope you can take some comfort in knowing he died peacefully.

Thank you, I hope your hen recovers fully and quickly. I've never had bumble foot injury in my flock before but I've been so worried about getting one, I'm not a big fan of ugly injuries or trying to fix them though my sister wants to be a nurse so I'll just have her do it

@sunny & the 5 egg layers I did my first bumblefoot surgery earlier this year and it turned out well. Maybe you'll be surprised at how well your girl does. Hope so. I think I'm going to have to do another surgery on my favorite girl soon and I'm not looking forward to it but if it keeps her around a while longer, that's all good.
