Quotes and Thoughts for the Day

Then I'm in a heap of trouble! <sigh> Making eye contact is one of the toughest things I have to do, and I'll go out of my way to avoid it....messing with the strap on my purse, chasing an imaginary piece of lint off my shirt, tiling my head to scratch an itch on the back of my neck.....whatever I can do that takes the focus off my face. As a kid I had a serious stuttering problem. A word or two was difficult, a sentence was frustrating, and an entire idea or spoken thought was impossible. Having someone look at me while I was struggling made it even more of a trial. I don't stutter nearly as much as I did, but old habits die hard and eye contact is still extremely intimidating to me.

You probably miss a lot of smiles then, huh?

I didn't have a speech problem but an overwhelming shyness kept me from looking directly at people. I finally had to force myself to get in the habit of looking...still not always a natural thing to do. And making small talk? fugedaboutit What do some people have to talk about all the time, anyway? Of course, with 25k posts to my member name, that might be hard to believe, lol.

Totally different to communicate via writing and the computer, right Blooie?

It absolutely is, Debby!! My wonderful stepdad told me that when what I had to say was important to me, then it was important to him, too. But he knew it was hard for me. So he told me to write down what I wanted to say, and he'd read every word. He did, and I learned that I had value and I learned the power of the written word. By the way, he later adopted my sister and me - we were both adults with husbands and families of our own - and that day tops a long line of "most memorable memories" in a lifetime of them.

Made me think of this time of year/Thanksgiving and Christmas... We have so much of our own...so blessed in so many different ways. Pray that you may find someone that needs help. Donate your time, or some food to a food bank. My guess, you all on here have already done just that..and have been giving all yr. I know I have seen it here many times..prayers asked for, prayers said. Love you all.
