Quotes and Thoughts for the Day

I'm so sorry that the boys are giving you such grief.  It can be so upsetting to even consider having to rehome a bird that you care about.  Is it possible that this is just a temporary disagreement?

If you decide that you can't keep them together, can you split the flock in half and give each rooster 11-12 hens?

Thanks for that great story. I don't think this was a temporary disagreement based on the video from our security system that I watched of the fight. It was only going to end in one way, death to one of them. I am not sure a 40 minute all out brawl can be called classified as a disagreement. They have grown up together and the alpha has always been the alpha from early on. We ended up with two RIR roo's from our order and one of them and the alpha had some tousles but nothing like this. Bruno, the second in command, his head was very bloody back by his comb on top of his head. I wish we had the money and time right now to build another coop set up for him and some hens, but that probably isn't realistic right now. Sadly he will end up going to the stock pot. I won't give him away to someone who will just throw him in a stock pot. If his life needs to be ended, I feel it should come from us. Afterall, we did get chickens to keep us close to the food source, which also includes the not so fun parts of chickens. I wish there was another way, but I would feel way worse if we put the back together and it resulted in a fight to the death.
