Let me 1st apologize for interrupting todays great quotes. I had a wonderful experience yesterday, I felt I just needed to share with someone and since it was a heartfelt experience, I figured this is the best place I know. I will try to make it a shortened version.
I left work yesterday at lunch and wasn’t really hungry so I thought I would stop in and visit my mom for a moment, which I often due in lue of eating. About halfway there I started thinking of Steak and Shake; I go there often, I’m a couple of times a week regular there. After taking my seat, I notice a young lady, probably 25 or 26 years old; sitting with 2 small children, probably 2 and 4. She was dressed in her army uniform. I asked Kristine, one of my normal servers if she was her table, she confirmed. I said, “Don’t tell her, but bring me her check.” She looked at me weird and said “Really?” I said “Yes, I am a soldier;” spent 8 years in the Ohio Army National Guard as an armor crewmen. She brought me the check and told me the older lady a couple of booths back; who was also a regular had told her, just prior to my arrival; that if she was rich she would buy they’re lunch. I said, “Well I’m not rich either, I’m a soldier.” A few minutes pass, I’m nearly done eating and the older lady walks past me and says, “Thanks for doing that it is so nice.” I say No Problem. I finish my lunch, walk passed the soldier, told her Thanks for your Service and waved at her children, she was grateful to hear this and said Thank you so much. At the register Kristine waves the soldiers receipt in front of me and says, “You are only paying for this ticket today.” “Why?” I asked. Seems there was another gentleman in there this day that wanted to buy the soldiers lunch, when Kristine informed him I had beat him to it; he said well then let me buy his lunch. My lunch cost 5.00; wasn’t going to break me. it’s just the thought that, someone else thought that much of my actions to do it for me as well. It’s a good feeling to know that you may have just made someone’s day and that there may have been other reasons they were alone this day. My fiancée and I do this kind of thing often. Usually with an elderly person sitting alone at dinner, this was the 1st time with a soldier. It’s also good to know that there is still some good out there other than yourself sometimes. Well much more to say, but promised the shortened version, so ta ta for now. Remember, the seemingly small gesture to you; may mean the world to someone else; be kind.
