When I was a kid, we had canning parties. We would shell peas, shuck corn, and can all kinds of vegetables. At the end of the day, we'd have 4 or more ice cream churns going. All of us kids would get a turn at turning the crank. It was so much fun.

We had those too, but usually it was corn. The farmers wife that babysat us would harvest some for them and we’d spend the day shucking, cutting off the cob, and then she would process. Usually there was fresh, cold watermelon or ice cream for a treat at the end of the day. I had so much fun doing that.

We have had "work parties" with friends, at theirs, or ours. Big, heavy job, and it's FUN! Many hands, light work, good company, good food. Great times and memories.
