"Most Trusted Man in America" at one time, wasn't he?

Probably. I remember people referring to him as Uncle Walt. People not only trusted him, they respected him.

ETA: According to Wiki: "Walter Leland Cronkite Jr. (November 4, 1916 – July 17, 2009) was an American broadcast journalist who served as anchorman for the CBS Evening News from 1962 to 1981. During the 1960s and 1970s, he was often cited as "the most trusted man in America" after being so named in an opinion poll."

Thank you.

In the run up to July 4th, 1976, there were 3 minute history segments on TV called "Bicentennial Minutes." As the big day approached, actors and other famous people did the narration. As the day got closer, there was speculation as to who would do The Big One...?

Yes, it was Walter Cronkite. And to put his own (funny) spin on it, He ended it with, "And that's the way it was, July 4th, 1776."
