R.I.P. Pearl

Yes, Pearl was taken in the afternoon. During a 2 hour period while we were on break in the house. I'm well aware of the risks of free ranging. I got this flock with the intention of having them range on my horse pens to work some fly control, so I've prepared myself for losses. It's been a year tho and this was the first time ever that they were out there without the horses. Makes me feel there's got to be some connection.

we have coons around our horses so i don't think they scare them off but the horses could have warned the chickens that something strange was nearby.
let your nephew trap them(whatever it is).doesn't matter what he does with them as long as he removes them from your place.they will be back and may very well still be there, thats why the chickens do not want to come out.

sorry for your loss of Pearl. :(

My horses always 'went on alert' when coons came around, they wouldn't actually stop them, but they probably gave your flock a warning.
So sorry for your loss, and your ankles.
