R.I.P. Sophie...

This morning when I woke up to go feed my hens, and start the Saturday pen cleaning I found my Bared Rock, Sophie dead.

I've only had her for about two weeks. She had no marks or blood on her, she had no bugs or worms anywhere on her. The day before she was healthy and active. There was no sign of sickness or attack, just a dead bird.

I am now worried for my other birds. I hope the whatever she died of is not contagious. Someone give me hope. Tell me some reasons that chickens die suddenly.

Has she laid any eggs for you yet they would be the darker brown eggs, maybe she was egg bound? Soo sorry, the rest of the flock she came from are all very healthy and laying eggs. Sometimes young pullets get egg bound and die. Keep me informed.

She has been laying. Out of thee three that I got from you she was the only one laying, and almost every day. You may have touched on something there.

That is usually the reason a young pullet/Hen dies for no reason is they get egg bound i have had it happen before.

Reading your post reminded me of something I read today in my chicken book as I'm new to chickens, it says;

Egg Peritonitis (internal laying)
Egg yolks drop into the body cavity, instead of entering the oviduct and death usually occurs within 24 hours.
