I've got about 8 RIR's and 8 EE's and one RIR roo. all of the RIR's (except the two who are quaranteened with newly hatched chicks) appear to be loosing feathers on their backs and their butts, even the roo. I figured they were molting but it is my understanding this is a late summer/early fall thing and it is currently middle of the summer here. (here = mid south). The other thing that concerns me is that the bare spots appear to be really red, what looks to be irritated. Now i'm thinking mites maybe. IDK this is my first flock and i don't want them to be suffering if not necessary, nor do I want to freak out if it is just something natural like a molt. help!

If possible inspect very closely if you can. Mites a so tiny, but if you can actually get a close look you should be able to see them.

Also, take some pics and post them if you can. It sounds a bit suspicious if they are all (except the new moms) going through this.
