A friend gave us a rabbit hutch, question is the floor of the pen has wire 1" x 1/2", is that ok for the quail? There is a "house" part that is insulated and then the "run" area with 1" square wire on the sides and the 1 x 1/2" on the floor. Thanks!

BTW- we have Coturnix!

Rabbit hutches make great quail pens. I don't know if I am visualizing yours correctly. It's a hutch with a run attached? Coturnix do not "need" runs...If you have them outdoors, I would worry about predator problems. Post a pic of your hutch

I think she is talking about an enclosed box and an open section of the cage. Rabbit hutches don't have runs on the ground.

1 X 1 And 1 X 1/2 Leaves Alot Of Room For Hungry Determined Lil Paws... Sounds Like The Hutch Would Work Fine But I Would Place A Layer Of 1/2inch Hardware Cloth Over All Wire Surfaces And Secure It To Prevent Any Predators From Hooking 1 Of My Birds Thru That Wire.

Actually our hutch looks alot like 3rd pic in Petej's photos-house on one end fenced area on the other, raised above the ground. Pics will have to be tomorrow, dark here now. I will put the smaller wire around to aid in predator protection. Their little cooing noises are so sweet!
