We will be putting our eggs in the incubator this week, and in the meantime I’m working on the brooder box. I want it to be inside, raised off the ground and somewhat open so we can look directly in while we are sitting on the couch. Plus I want my German Shepherd to get used to the babies (but he will not be alone in a room with the brooder box)

My friend offered to give me her old rabbit hutch. Obviously I need to clean it, add a solid floor, and I will probably take out the “walls” between the different smaller cages, but is there anything else I need to do?

Are you planning on putting this inside? if so that fencing on the walls is gonna make a mess on your floor with chicks running around blowing dust everywhere. also, i would make the bottom solid to they cant get their feet stuck in it. Good Luck!

Where the wire is I would add a boarder on the inside to the shaving in and maybe add some small perches! (Just for the extra!) I think it will work beautifully with adding the floor! What are you going to do for heat?

Definitely adding perches :) I’m using one of those square mama plates. (That’s what I call them, anyway)
And yes! Definitely adding something to try to keep the shavings contained. I’ve debated using sand as well, but that would need a boarder too
