Rabbit in garage

A curiosity on my side - why are they wanting specifically a rabbit and not something a bit more traditional like a cat or dog?

I feel like a properly litterbox trained cat could fill any role that a rabbit could. And (excuse my limited knowledge of rabbit care) a cat may be less work overall.
We have a dog and my step-father only wants kittens he wont even take a cat that is like 7 months old but he will get a rabbit and my mom just likes rabbits so they want a rabbit

I got a cat instead of a rabbit and I think it's the best decision. They are very clean, have 0 body odour, independent but affectionate, and mine is super calm and not destructive at all. She even listens to no command. Rabbits are super fragile creatures which can literally die from gas in under 12 hour and are still considered exotic pets so they are seen by exotic vets or rabbit savy vets whereas every vet sees cats. And the issue of hay is there too it gets everywhere and some people are allergic to it. I suggest getting a kitten.

Trust me if they said I could get a cat I would my friend offered me their cat because they need to get rid of it because they were moving and I tried to get them to take it but he said no because he doesn’t want a cat he doesn’t know like what you won’t know any cat you get like that is the worst reason why you don’t want an animal

Maybe u could convince them to Foster one who is already fixed and littertrained from a shelter and keep it inside in a x pen like in the above pictures.

Update: So I talked with my parents and they agreed to wait until we get a proper cage for the rabbit until they actually get the rabbit! I'm not the one that wants it but I know they wont do a lot of research so I have a couple questions about the care of the rabbit.

1. Would the claws need trimming or should we just get them declawed or would that be considered cruel like when people declaw cats?

2. Would the rabbit need brushing weekly or daily or it doesn't even need to be brushed

3. Are there certain breeds that we should not get if we are keeping it outside?

4. If we do end up getting 2 rabbits would we need a boy and a girl or two of the same sexes

5. Where could I find plans for a good outdoor pen that we could make

Thanks everyone for your answers to my previous questions and answers that you will give to these

Do you want the rabbit or your parents want a rabbit?

Yes their nails have to be trimmed and no you cannot take their nails off of them.

Do not under any circumstance get to rabbits unless they are already fixed because you will end up with babies.

Depends on the breed how often you need a brush.

I have not run across any rabbit area cage plans to purchase online.

It can be very expensive upwards of $500 to fix a rabbit.
I had to drive to another city and I still paid half the price mentioned above to get my rabbit fixed.

My parents want the rabbit.

We have dog nail clippers would that work or are their nails to small

I'll make sure the rabbits are fixed

I think they want a Holland lop would that need to be brushed?

I'll continue looking for rabbit cages. I think I might just ask the breeder on a good cage

And thanks again for the help
