So, while at a swap meet today I met a rabbit breeder and ended up buying two rabbits (all of the sudden my ten year old has decided he would really like to show rabbits).

So I got them home and into a couple cages that I borrowed from the breeder, and she gave me some extra feed to get me through until Tuesday when the feed store opens back up. I picked up a book on rabbits (couldn't find the Storey's (sp?) Guide at Farm and Fleet, I'll keep looking for it though.

I guess my question is - is there anything I should know for the next couple days? Any advice that any experienced rabbit people would like to share?

Feed them, house them, keep the cool enough with enough water, and don't let the 10yo handle them too much. That is about all you need to do.

Sorrythe age old bunko of not handling them a lot is jus that.
handle them as much as possible, otherwise they will not be used to it and will cut him and you to shreds.

food
water
ice bottles if it gets too hot
is ablout all they need, socialization is the key right now.
how old and where are the pictures?

I agree I carried my rabbits everywhere with my , especially the show bunnies, You really dont want to take out a half crazed rabbit and have the judge (or your son ) get shredded.. Bunny scratches hurt

Go to the American Rabbit Breeders web site and join. The dues for a 10 year old are around 10 dollars a year. They will send you a great book on rabbit care and for an extra 3 dollars a book with the list of other breeders in the country. That makes it nice to be able to contact someone in your area with a question. I absolutly love my rabbits and have been showing them for years. Have fun!!!!

Thanks everyone - when I got my chickens I was prepared, I had read up, and this was an impulse buy, which I try to avoid. And I am the world's biggest worrier.

The rabbits are a little older, they're three years old. I don't have pictures yet, as my camera is out of commission, but they're really cute white mini rex with ruby eyes.

And the rabbits are used to being handled, so my 10 y/o can pick them up (the breeders two year old daughter was carrying them around at the swap meet without problems).
