rabbits

It is possible to introduce two adult (altered!) rabbits to each other. As with most animal training, it takes time, patience, and you need to keep a close eye on things in the beginning. I think someone else said it already, but visit the House Rabbit Society at www.rabbit.org. They have all the bunny info you could want, including introducing buns to each other.

bantymum, would a guinea pig be playful with the rabbit. you mentioned a hamster too wouldnt a hamster be too small and they sleep all day dont they. what im looking for is a playmate for him as he has chosen the dogs to play with and well they just arnt interested. also are guinea pigs messy as my rabbit is very cleanly he never messes in his house and allways goes in his tray at the bottom of the run.

Geez im dumb, sorry i thought hampsters and piggies were the same animal!!! Ive seen plenty of piggies and buns together as I run a petsitting business!
The piggies do however tend to drop nuggets anywhere, so it may be tough on your little clean bunny, they do play hide and seek!!!

bantymum, thanks i might try to find out if guinea pigs are possible to litter train then it was easy with the rabbit but i dont know if it is possible for guinea pigs.
he needs a playmate and it seems alot kinder than getting him neutered.

I have had both guinea pigs and rabbits and have allowed them to mingle outside in their grazing pen. I would never let them live together however because the guinea pigs are rather defenceless against rabbits. Rabbits have very strong legs that can kick and they are rather fast while guinea pigs are slower and could be severely injured by a kick or bite. A guinea pig would be a good playmate if supervised but it would not make a good cage mate.

picco,oh right looks like a guinea pig is out of the question then, my rabbit is a very gentle one doesnt that make a difference

Hi again Joanna, have you had a look at the rabbit site, they do suggest guinea pigs as mates, and as I said I have seen wonderful mateship between the 2!!!
hopperhome is a good site to try to glean more info!!

thanks bantymum, i may try a ginea pig and split them up if it doesnt work i have looked on the rabbit site but i will look on hopperhome too and search some info into gineas.
