Rabies paranoia

The goose *seems* ok this morning but she's really quiet. Her wing is tucked back up normally and there's not any blood.
I hate these stories too. I've lost a few birds this year all ready but have never caught an animal in the act before. I had no idea a raccoon would be so brazen. This morning one of the traps was drug about 15 feet across the run. We had a 25 lb raccoon here a couple of years back and I am afraid we have another huge, bold boar who is too big to fit into a trap.

Rabies is pretty much a zombie illness once an animal has it within a few days they will die and in the meantime they will become a zombie..

Everyone should Google rabid raccoon.. it's pretty distinctive what they look like and once you see the video you won't have any more questions...

But you are pregnant so in reality you can never be too safe.

Call your doctor and ask. Trap and shoot the raccoons, if possible, NOT in the head, and have them tested for rabies.
It's a fair question, not considered often enough.
Broken skin on your hand would be the issue, but do ask your doctor and then you can be more comfortable about it all.
Glad your goose is doing better!
Mary
