Raccoon attack

The vetericyn will help, I used it in a situation where I thought the chicken would surely die. She actually seemed to welcome the application because it helped her pain. I separated her and used the vetericyn and neosporin until I could get vet care and she did make it. The early care is crucial.

Good sings she is acting normal but keep a very close eye on her, they hide things so well. What is the temperature there? Is there a chance flies are out? You may want to bring her inside if there are flies so that none try to lay eggs in her wound.

If the crop is just exposed, but not damaged or punctured, there is a chance it can be pushed back into her and the wound closed up around it. Just will depend on the extent of the damage, of course.

Edit to add this link to a post about an injury that exposed the chickens crop. The vet was able to do surgery and get her closed back up:

It's exposed and hanging on by very little. It's in the 90's and flies did lay maggots in the wound. I've been rinsing it out with sterile saline, and the wound care spray from my local MFA.

Awesome, thank you. They're supposed to call me tomorrow.

So when you say having on by very little, do you mean that the crop is nearly detached?

Yes please take her somewhere away from where the flies can get to her. Be very vigilant about picking off any more maggots
