My beautiful Ayam Cemani rooster tried to defend his girls from either a cat or raccoon (what I’ve seen around the coop) and it tried to grab him from inside his coop. His skin under his wing on his side belly area is completely torn. I have been spraying him a couple times a day with Vetericyn and was also told it should be packed with bag balm to keep it from drying out. He is currently indoors in my basement in a large dog crate for recovery and is eating and drinking fine. He’s moving around mostly fine, however, he also broke his middle toenail off so he does baby that foot a bit.

Am I doing this right? Is there anything else I can do for him? Looking at other wounds on here I feel like this should heal…right??? This is the sweetest rooster and I don’t want anything bad to happen to him.

Thank you in advance

Pretty boy!

I'd continue to spray with the Vetericyn. Trim the feathers away from the wound so it will stay cleaner and feathers won't stick in the wound.

If you feel the Vetericyn is not keeping the wound moist enough, use Triple Antibiotic ointment in the wound.

Usually chickens are resilient and heal well. You're tending to the wound daily and he's inside where flies can't get at the wound.

Thank you! We’re on day 3 and he’s seems to be doing well still so I’ll keep it up.
