Has anyone tried fence spikes to deter raccoons and if so, has it been helpful? We had a recent attack and are feeling horrible. Our coop is predator proof...except the door wasn't totally locked. Switching to combo lock for that.
Anyhow, the raccoons come from over our fence - I know it won't keep them all out, but hoping it will be somewhat of a deterrent - actually thinking of putting some on the coop itself so they don't even mess with it.

Thoughts?

A line of electric fencing around the top of the fence. Most fence spikes are designed to keep cats from walking along the top of a fence or to keep birds off. Coons are very dexterous animals and nimble climbers.
Hi Again Junebuggena! Is there a type/brand you suggest? Thanks!

Seems you have the right idea already. If your coop is predator proof, just make it difficult for accidents to occur.

If my door isn't locked shut, it will swing open... Only way to keep it closed is to lock it.
