I agree don’t hurt her and I don’t know about her but my girls aren’t fond of having their faces fussed with, but it may just be stuck with tears and eye discharge.its sealed shut so im not actually sure she lost it and i dont want to hurt her prying it open but i will but neosporin externally if that helps
yes she has eaten! and drank a bit. I put antibiotic durymycin in her water for the cracked egg. Her eye has opened slightly but not all the way. Normal to watery poops. Looking hopeful! Thanks for the help!!Has she eaten this morning?
You could make some warm mash for her with plenty of water
Or some soft scrambled eggs
thank you! It was soft but im not sure the whole thing came out I have only seen half of it. but I dont think the yolk even broke till it was expelled because she didnt poop yellow at all. Thanks againI like all the eye advice from @staceyj. Was the shell SOFT or just THIN? If it was thin and brittle, she could have gotten scraped inside. If it was soft and rubbery, I think she will be OK in that regard. It is normal for a hen to expel an egg before it is fully shelled in a time of extreme stress like that.
I don’t know how to help with a dislocated beak, but wetting her feed for now might make it easier for her to eat.
I will try this. Thank you! And she has been pooping regularly today so I would think it must have to have come out?? But who knows I will check.I’d be tempted today when she’s calm ,lubing up a finger and her vent (liberally) and go in there exploring for the rest of that shell.
The sooner it comes out the better.
Also maybe a calcium boost (like tums) might help the next egg firm up to help expel it as its coming out.
