yes, this is normal behavior. It's called feaking their beaks. It's to clean food debris off after eating. They usually do this on hard surfaces, such as a log, concrete, the ground, etc. If you have an old piece of 2x4 or scrap wood or even a small log, you could put it in the shower with her and she may like to stand on it to use as a perch and might use it to wipe her beak.Oh, another thing she does is after she eats sometimes she looks like she is wiping her beak on the floor....is this normal?
I would worry about another chicken hurting themself if they would fly around the bathroom. If you have one that is nice and docile, that would be good for visitations, observed by you, that might work better. Yes, you may have to clean more poop but the enrichment for your girl might boost her spirits. And the other chicken will fly around and make a mess?? Idk. Hopefully we can get an enclosure thay is fly proof and predator proof for her soon.
Do you have or know someone who has a dog crate you could borrow? This could be placed in the common areas of your home where she sees / hears daily activity in the house. Puppy pads are good for crates and easily disposable for clean up. Just trying to think of options for you.I've never nursed a chicken like this before....usually I'm too late and sadly they are too far gone or get taken by the predator completely. I have no clue what I'm doing and sadly I don't have plenty of time to spend with her but I do get to check on her a few times a day.
Here are some wing pics I forgot to add on this post. Thanks for asking!!
Uploaded some updated videos from today. See links below. These pictures here are from yesterday. I try to clean up after every night. I use to spray her twice a day with the Spurr thing (I think this spray is really good). But now I'm at once a day or so....maybe sometimes skipping a day. So something she does when I spray her is she seems to try to lick the spray afterwards/during the spraying. I'm not sure if she likes the taste or what. Anyone have any ideas?
Yesterday when I cleaned the shower area and put her on the floor in the restroom while I rinsed off the shower, I think she tried to escape....so I think she misses the outside, but I don't have a place for her that I am confident flies won't get to her so for now she stays in the restroom. So she can hop around but not super fast unless she is trying to escape I guess.
Any comments/questions/advice are all appreciated.
