I personally feel REALLY uncomfortable with E-wires beacause they can hurt chickens as well as preadators

I agree. That's why I have them. I put my electric wires up about the same time I joined BYC. I have never regretted it. I love it. I have been shocked but no issues. You can get a fence charger that will give a tickle but if anything touches my wires, I want the predators to know they're there.

I do have a cutoff switch under my fence charger or I can simply unplug it when I'm out working around the coops.
