well I had a raccoon attack and lost five hens in one night including my new beautiful wyandottes only had them for a month... the only survivors of my flock were my 2 Partridge Silkie bantams and my Muscovy duck She fought bravely and saved the Silkies. So went out and beefed up the security and am replacing all nesting boxes with kennels for them to sleep in at night which can be locked up so now they have double the security :) looking into getting some new ducklings and chicks soon. But any way down to buisness one of my hens did survive shes still alive its been a day but her neck is very limp and her eyes wont open almost like there gone...she cant do much just lays and stands once in a while I think maybe her neck is broken? I put an eye dropper with some water at the corner of her beak and she got some water in but I dont know if I should wait one more day to see if she gets any better or just put her out of her misery...

Oh I'm so sorry! What a sad story! I personally would fight like heck to keep her alive if there is a chance at all she could survive this. I think if her neck was broken she would be dead but I'm not positive. If you think there is a chance she might recover I'd try
It might be too soon to tell now. Maybe give her a little time and if the situation does not improve then you will have to do what you must to end her misery. But I would give her a little time and not make the decision right away. Bless her heart she's been through so much she might be in shock for a bit. If possible I'd chose to try and nurse her but if given some time and the situation is grave then yes sadly a cull would be the only option. Be aware the coon will likely come back again and possibly tonight. So make certain they are safe incase he returns. I'm so sorry you had to go through this and so sorry for such a terrible loss! I hope things work out in the future for you! We also have raccoons in the neighborhood I caught one on my lawn a few months ago. I bought a electric fence to help. I wish you the best and again I'm so very sorry.

well shes still alive but her eyes still wont open but good news since just since this morning she can already lift her head on her own, but she hasnt eaten or drank water since she got attacked and that was on tuesday night, it is now thursday evening. I will see how she is in the morning and then I will decide, I dont want her to suffer more then she already has. also we beefed up the security on the coop and also replaced the laying boxes with kennels for double protection.

ok so its now day three and my inured chicken is doing a bit better but I 100% sure the racoon took her eyes. i got her to drink from a syringe and am trying to figure out a way to feed her she must be starving I think i will blend some food down and squirt with the syringe, I feel so bad for her though you can tell she is really trying to here things around her.

day four and she i still alive and great news! She drank water on her own today and! her eyes are opened and one is fine but the other is kind of swollen also right above her eye on her head its really swollen and the skin is turning blue what ca I don about this? :(

well its been just over three months now and my hen is doing fantastic she survived and is healthy as ever it took her a bit to get used to only using half her eye and her depth was off for a bit but shes perfectly healthy now and her eye is even all healed up!
