racoons

He may try, but he'll typically lose that battle unless it's a very young, inexperienced raccoon.

Raccoons are much tougher than any rooster...plus can see at night, whereas the rooster is blind in the dark. Who will have the upper hand then? Unfortunately the coon.

Introduce the racoons to either mr S and W or get you a live trap and rehome the ones you catch to a different area. Just by trying to scare them won't work once they know theres a great easy food supply close. You might want to lock your birds up at night until the problem is solved

Be very careful on doing any rehoming, it is most likely illegal and even where it is legal there are frequently other requirements that must be met to legally relocate a wild animal.

In some states the simple act of placing a wild animal in or on a vehicle requires a transportation tag.

this time of year they have little ones so they might come in a group and wipe out a whole flock, i know that first hand. trap em or just do it the good ole fashion way with a little lead

Last year I lost a whole crop of sweet corn the day before we were to harvest it, so I have to go with the lead idea. Also we have had a big prob with rabies in N.C., most times the animal was a coon, this puts you at risk if you handle an injured chicken. Also keep in mind that once they get a taste for chicken it become their primary diet.
