Hi I'm currently building my own incubator... Polystyroam Box with 100W Light globe but Potential problem is Light source is 3 inches from Eggs... is this distance too close or acceptable.. will have a Fan constantly running... Also eggs will be constantly turning also... Any advice would be welcomed, thanks

Certainly too close, IMO! The chicks could bump into it if they stand on the eggs and get burned, plus with it that close it would most likely go over the temperature you want and burn your eggs.

Thx, then I'd have to extend the box height, maybe another 2 inches?? A total of 5-6 Inches between Light source & Turning eggs? Also I intend to remove eggs before they Hatch... I know of someone who told me they remove them (quail eggs) after 15 days to brooder box?? hey thx for your reply appreciated for any advice I can get... I spent too much time on my incubator project so hope it works...

I have never made my own incubator, so I can't really say. Hopefully someone with incubation experience and someone who has built their own will stop in and help you out.

Welcome to BYC. I hope you enjoy it here!

Oh, no, what I told you is just off what I'd expect from that. I certainly would think that, though!

What about 5 -6 inches for Light source distance from Rotating Quail Eggs? The Styrofoam Box is Very Compact 11 x 11 x 15 in. Also I finally took apart a cheap Thermo/Hygrometer and resoldered an extension wire to have a hygrometer probe... works great! appreciate any advice.. I'm just waiting on some fans then it's complete and can't wait to upload some pics!!

100 watts is a big bulb for a fairly small incubator, If it is well insulated 40 watts should be enough. Two small bulbs say 25-35 watters will provide more even heating puting less radiated heat on the eggs and will offer some backup in case you have a blown bulb.
