Radiant heat temp

So my radiant heater gets really hot to touch is that normal? I have a temp control but worried they could get burned or am I over thinking this?

If it's too hot for you, it's too hot for them. Is this like something you can raise up above their heads so their heads don't touch it?

Yes it has adjustments on it, but wanting to know is that normal for heat plates to be that hot to Touch or do I need to get a different Brand that might be better?

What type? All the ones I have seen are factory set not familiar with one with temp controls. Do you have a thermometer you can check temp under plate?
