I grew these radishes in my garden and they are SO HOT that I can't stand to eat them! Even in salad!! [IMG]

Does anyone give their chickens radishes? Think it's safe to try? They pick at the leafy tops, but it's not their favorite.

If you have a ton you could try cooking them it lessens the heat, use in a stir fry. If you still don't like them the chickens may eat them cooked.

Ours eat the leaves off of my husband's radishes, but they will not eat the actual radishes. My guess is they are too hot for them.

I will try freezing them and using them in stir fry, thanks!
I do give them the leafy green tops, but mine, also, (I don't think) eat the radishes... [IMG]

Mine Stand waiting to attack everytime I come over with radish tops. I do throw in the small ones that didn't grow right and they always seem to eat them. Takes them a while!! Our chickens are at 14 weeks roughly

My birds LOVE radishes. I picked the last of my crop and they were to large and kind of tough so they went into the compost pile (which is like a chicken buffet) and the birds ate them right up. One word of caution, if they're real spicy you may end up with spicy eggs. My hens got into the garden and ate my serrano peppers and some onions and the eggs seemed to have a spicy/oniony flavor for the next few days. Not real strong just a hint of flavor. Don't know hot your radishes are so just something to keep in mind.....

I think radishes would be too hot for them. Don't let them eat them.[IMG]

Quote:You can give chickens very hot peppers and it wont affect them. Actually, its good for them. They cant taste the heat..so radishes are not to hot for them to eat at all...[IMG]

My chickens like radishes and the radish flowers and seed pods.

I let some of my radishes grow into bushy like flowering plants and feed the flowers and the green bean looking seed pods to the chickens and to us people since they are edible, safe and healthy. I have only done this with white radishes so if there is a dangerous radish out there I sure dont know about it.
