RAID and chickens,.

As far as cayenne goes, we have had an African Gray Parrot for about 20 years now and in one of the books we bought it said that fowl do not have the "heat" sensors in the mouth that mammals do. Soooooo, it is not hot to them evidently!

Wow, kinda makes you wonder if there's any connection between the sugars *our* diet and relative fertility rates, doesn't it?

IRT the original question-- poison is poison. There's no poison that affects only the thing it's aimed at, whether that be insects, rats, or plants; it's going to be bad for any other living thing around, too. I wouldn't use raid or similar near any animal, but especially not ones that can't just move further away.

They aren't fire ants by any chance? They can get on nesting chickens and do some damage. Is there an ant hill nearby where you kill them at the source and not spray Raid all over?

the feeders are hanging,

I have these little black ants... tiny little suckers.

I dont know if they like the water on the ground. the chicken poo or just like hanging out in the pen. Doesnt seem to bother them much. just annoys me.,., I will try all of the above...
thanks

no HILL but more so just in crevices or in leaves and debris on the ground. I will have to follow them and find out where their home base is.. hopefully it will be far enough away from the coop/run.

I wish the chicks would learn to like ants.. i have them all over the yard.. one of the reason i wanted chickens,,, organic pest control...

oh and no//.. these are not fire ants.. just little annoying black ants.,.,

They do. We put it outside on my MIL porch where they were coming in, and in my apt where they came in. They stayed mostly at the sugar for a number of weeks, then disappeared and never returned. The good thing was, we didn't have to worry about my pets getting into it--if they did-oh well. We did try to place it where the dogs wouldn't eat the whole bowl, however. lol
