we had a ton of rain from florence and gah the soppin wet mess! We started out with a thick shavings layer. We do colony style buns. Then i added straw cause they had have somethin dry to land on and with so much rain shavings were just gettin more of a mess. Everything is still dryin out but soppy wet in some places still. We havent been able get the straw and shavings up yet to help it dry out (that will happen tomorrow) and next week is supposed be more rain. Geez! Today i bathed two and need do two more does tomorrow. The three bucks are all good and three other does.... we had planned to butcher the week before the storm but had batten down the hatches so we didnt get to it. Then to top it off today i go in for mornin chores and poof a pretty lil nest in a corner with nine sausage shaped wee brand spankin new damp beans. Oh my! So sortin again we go..... we missed ONE STINKIN BUCK! Mama got one of the baths today, i gave her and her kits a snuggly big box, fresh bedding amd the beans got fresh clean fur from mama afterward. So now.... we HAVE to keep all these does (we usually only keep two ladies and one buck) for at least another month because... who is bred and who is not. :(. These are all seven month old does so please dont think us crazy irresponsible for lettin wee ones stay together. :(. But man o man... mites make me sad! So much more work now to do. And i could just kick ourselves for missin a buck. Amd you might ask why wait so long to butcher.... we do sunday dinners here and i cook rabbit bout once a month for it... so we grow one litter longer to be able feed everyone for sunday dinners and this was that litter. :).

Hey, I'm glad you made it through Florence! :yesss:

Things happen... it would be crazy irresponsible if you weren't able to deal with and continued to knowingly do it again and again. That isn't the case at all! :highfive:

Wish I had the guts to raise/process rabbits. My family is open to buying locally grown and processed to try, at least for now. I also hope to achieve a weekly dinner with my crew! :thumbsup

Not sure where you stand or which type of mites you are dealing with, but this spray is approved for use on buns as well as chickens and many others, also effective, affordable and easy to use... (not sure how difficult your baths are)

Mites be gone. :tongue

The buns really arent horrible once you get them in the sink. It is the before and after dryin that is bloody. Lol! They seem to enjoy the warm water and bath. Then the dryer set on low heat i have had a few fall asleep on me.

I dont have a problem processin them once they are done twitchin. But hubby has do the deed for me. Cleanin a rabbit is fairly easy like a bird but you take the hide off first.

Mites are jist a thing that happens when it is so warm and wet for long periods. So we do keep an eye on them. It is just a pain to deal with cause you gotta clean EVERYTHING.

You can use any chicken recipe and just sub rabbit for chicken. Unless it is on the bone noone will be the wiser. I do let everyone know when we have rabbit though and i cook chicken for My mama who wont eat the rabbit. I wont feed anyone somethin different like this to be fussed at later on for feedin them such and such meat.
