Back to the topic! Rain is a ducky-birthday. Wind is what can chill them, so I agree about the shelter, even if you just plant some big shrubs they can huddle under, or have a wind break made of an old wooden pallet, that is fine. Mine have shrubs and the shelter of a fence, and usually have access to the coop when they want, but don't use it during the day by choice. Perhaps winter will change this.
