Rainwater off of an asphalt shingle roof

I would like to put two rainbarrels on the corners of my coop, but the coop is new as are the shingles. Are there chemicals that could make the hens sick?

No it will not make them sick, we have a downspout which feeds a barrel outside for them to drink from. As a matter of fact we catch out roof rain water into a modern cistern system for whole house use, we run it through a filter system before it comes into the house. it has tested out cleaner before the filters than the national clean water standards and almost none detected after the filters. And it is free and replenishes the 3000gl tank about every 9 days.
