Rainy, Cold and Windy- best to leave chickens inside today?

Most of mine were out pretty much all afternoon in the light rain and wind and only, reluctantly, went in at dark tonight. When I feed and gathered eggs this afternoon there were still a few on the roosts that were dry and happy to be there.

In SE PA yesterday it was windy & 50+ degrees. The chickens stayed in first thing when it was windy & not raining. Later they went out when it was not pouring. By late afternoon they were out in the pouring rain & at close up time they were inside & pretty wet. They are out this morning, no worse for wear.

They should have some kind of wind block.
A little wet is OK, a little windy is OK...but both are not great.

This is true if they are confined to a small yard. Since mine are free-ranged they can pick their own spots out of the rain and wind. Yesterday they alternated from under the coop extension and the house deck only coming out when things let up.
