Raising a coop off the ground necessary?

I am planning out a 6' x 6' chicken coop, but I am not sure if I will need to raise it off the ground. We don't have allot of vermin, fox, hawks, etc. issues where I am, and I may use a concrete floor, so I don't think I will need to worry about being safe from predators. The roosts will be high off the ground so when they sleep they will still feel safe. So I am not sure that I should spend another few hundred dollars just to make a raised base. What do you guys think I should do? Is it worth the investment, or will I be fine with a concrete floor?

Thanks

The coop the chickens had when I was a child was just 4 walls and a roof. I like the raised floor because it also gives a dry (snow free in winter) shady spot for my chickens.

The decision to have a raised coop or concrete floor is up to you. There are pros and cons to every design. Only you can decide what's best for you.

I think the main benefit to a *small* raised coop is that it essentially doubles the chicken area-- they have inside the coop, and underneath it. Like building a small, two-story house. Also, again for small coops, raising the coop makes it easier for the humans involved to maintain-- it's easier to shovel out litter, gather eggs, etc., from something a bit higher than ground level, since you're having to reach inside to do those things. For large coops, neither one of those things matter so much.

I don't see anything wrong with the concrete floor I almost did that myself but opted for a wooden floor up on blocks as my coop is 12x12 and I figured if I went with a wood floored shed type coop I could jack it up onto a trailer and move it to a different location if I wanted.
