Hi, I have gotten it into my head that I might want to raise a turkey for thanksgiving or Christmas. I need any and all information I might need to do this. I know they take several months to mature so do I need to get an older bird so it will be ready in time. What breed is best? Male or female? I have heard they do better if you have more than one, or could I just raise one? What best to feed? How to prepare when the times comes. And if anyone has one or two for sale in my area, if I decide to do this. Any and all information is welcome and thanks

The "broad breasted" varieties get bigger faster. But I would think you could get them young now and they would be big enough for thanksgiving/Christmas. I have the Narragansett turkeys and they are pretty big (not filled out, but big) at 11 weeks old.
