Raising an indoor cockerel, advice?

If you have Facebook you should look up “The Adventures of Cotton the House Rooster”. She has had her Roo Cotton indoors for quite a few years and seems like she has things down pat with him. I bet she would be willing to answer any questions you have or advise/tips to give you if you reach out to her? Worth a try at least

He appears to have yellow shanks & feet.
Marans are supposed to have white skin, not yellow.

He might be some kind of a mix. Hatcheries sell some kinds of mixes (hybrid layers), or of course someone could have hatch eggs from a mixed backyard flock.

Lol! Yes, Cuckoo is just a color pattern that I think a few different breeds of chickens can have. It is described as more all over the place blurred lines where as barred is more defined. Maybe Dominique? Or a mix? His feather pattern looks like my Cuckoo Marans Roo but Marans do not have yellow legs. Either way he is a sweet little cutie, no matter what he is .

Dominiques are supposed to have rose combs, while OP's cockerel has a single comb.

I think that is likely, or else a Barred Rock that has poor-quality barring.

He seems to have just come from some backyard flock. About a week after my wife rescued him, she saw a few siblings around the area.

I don’t know! I thought so too! But the markings definitely seem to mimic that at the cuckoo more. Who knows! Haha.
