Raising Baby Chicks

You can decrese the heat by raising the lamp higher, or replacing the bulb to a lower watt bulb
Your chicks will tell you if they are to hot or cold by there behavior.
If to cold they will pile up under the light sometimes crushing the ones on the bottom. They will chirp loudly.
if to hot, they will retreat to the outer reaches of the box to escape the heat. You will observe them panting.
I usually have a range of bullbs for this, from a 75 watt down to a 40 watt when they need a light , not necessarily heat.

Hi and welcome to BYC. Observing your chicks, rather than relying on strict temperature reduction regimes is often a useful way to judge whether your chicks are ok. If they are huddling together and chirping = too cold. Spread out as far away from the heat source as possible with beaks open = too hot. As mentioned, providing a range of temperatures in a brooder is key.
