Hi everybody,

I am a really urban chicken farmer. I've had chickens for about a year and I have started helping out new urban chicken farmers in London.
Aside from that, I have been a lurker at BYC for a long while and I think its about time I start an account and contribute more back to the community.

Thanks for having me!

Hi Redsox,

Thanks for having me! You look like a seasoned member, I've just tried searching but I can't find anything that is accurate enough, I think I need to learn the search function slightly better. I have just upgraded my coop and my hens didn't lay any eggs this morning (they usually lay in the morning). I was wondering if this was due to a strange environment (even though it is the same location, just bigger coop).
I have put gold balls down in the egg boxes.

Do you have any idea if this question has popped up in BYC before? (I'm sure it has)

Hello and welcome....so glad you joined BYC

Good for you, helping others out ! Most people new to chickens really appreciate the know how of someone who has already been thru some of the rocky parts of chicken keeping.

Enjoy the site :)

I agree with Drumstick Diva. After we got a dog, the hens didn't lay well for a couple days, then they went back to it.

If they don't pick up, consider a feed change. My girls' laying slacked for a while, and folks on the site suggested adding protein to their diet. Some black oil sunflower seeds and scrambled eggs perked them right back up, so I switched from 16% protein layer feed to 20% flock raiser. It's really helping the production rate.
