raising chicks this late in the year

I have some that were hatched Oct 2, and started laying I think it was Feb 9th. I did keep a brooder lamp on in their brooder 24/7 initially with a 60 watt bulb. Also I put a wireless digital thermometer in the brooder so I could monitor the temp. I kept a red heat lamp on in their coop. They did fine. I'm getting more chicks.

I have a question that goes along with the one that started this. I have abarred rock that is hatching out chicks just in the last day or so she is in an upper nest how will she get the chicks down and should i put food and water up ith the nest with her? I usually buy chicks in the spring and raise in a brooder until quite big. this is the first time I have had a hen actually hatch out any chicks and I don't want to discourage her. Help! I feel really stupid about this thanks before hand for all the help

I just went out to check my brrodies and have 4 chicks with more on the way I like it cause you actually have laying age in spring eraly summer and do not have to wait. Hubbie thinks we are selling all the chicks but I already have 2 picked out to keep.

You're going to have to move her to a lower place with her chicks. Do it in the dark, so not to worry or stress her too much. Yes, you can place a feeder and waterer near her so the peeps can come out for a snack/drink (once they're on the ground level). Good luck with your new babies and congrats!
