i know i should probably post this on the ornamental fowl page but i can't get anyone over there to reply to anything i say so anyway i am about to get a pair of white egyptian geese

and i am wondering what i should feed them to keep them healthy and breeding i plan to free range them and i had hoped to just feed them like i do my other domestic and canada geese which all i feed is cracked corn but like i have said they will be free range so will they be ok on corn . i had an egyptian gander one time that i had penned up and all he had was cracked corn and he was in excellent health always happy and bright looking but it was just him and i wasn't worried about breeding. so now with these two i am about to get will be free range, or maybe in a large 50' by 100' run with plenty of grass (still debating on which to do) will cracked corn be enough

I doubt you'll get anyone on this thread to say yes cracked corn is a great diet for geese even with all the grazing they will do, If I was you I'd PM RiverGoddess she has Egyptian [not the white ones] but she could help you on what to feed them. Congrats on your new geese.

thanks guys i know the cracked corn thing isn't the best thing but the feed stores around me don't offer much more in the way of fowl. what type of water fowl feed are you guys talking about though? and i guess i could see if they can special order some since my cousin does that with his pheasants. thanks guys any other little tidbits that will help me with them

If you want them to breed your will have to have the protein down to about 15-16% during the winter so that they do not get Fat around the breeding genitals. Too much protein causes that in geese.
That is the mixture of 300 pounds of Home Fresh and 200 pounds of oats. My duck eats the mixture too. Yes, we only have one duck left...
I use Home Fresh which is an multi flock feed. I do not feed them any other type of feed only for fowl.....

Get them use to eating in the pen they will be in at night time. This way will be easier to get them up for the night to pen them.

Always keep fresh clean water for them and a clean pool as well. Even if you have a pond they still will come over to their pool and play in it...
