Raising gambel’s quail

🤔that’s interesting, i can get more chicks but I figured id make sure i can hatch some out first and they needed to be different pairs , she is a scatter time the others she lays at the base of her tree

I would highly suggest not to inbreed because it can result in deformities and the lifespan will decrease. Plus yes to @Chip76 sometimes they won’t even try to breed because they know... I think it’s mainly when they’re brought up together but they do have weird instincts for that. 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♂️

Hi everyone so far she laid 17 eggs , i forgot to ask if i hatch them an go to breed them will i need to track down more gambels or can i breed the offspring with no issues ?
The decision is yours, but I have line bred the same male (California quail) to it's offspring for 4 consecutive years. I haven't seen any defects yet.

I was just asking because anything in the scaled family is like the holy grail of quail here 😅 finding a second set may of proved difficult if not impossible but i found an awesome breeder where i live , i managed to get 17 eggs since i owned her but hopefully i can hatch some
