PeepsCA is the best I mean as a person she is a digger... and makes it a bit easier to understand.
Though I think shes focusing on Peacocks these days.... She did a lot of input on the last one...

As far as color selection Ralph Winter has 24 different choices. He uses different terminology for color identification than I have heard here.... but a picture is worth a thousand words. He has jumbos as well. I want jumbos for my starter flock... they are a bit larger... and good eating...

PeepsCA really is great. Unfortunately she has not even been on BYC this year. I just hope she is alright.

I can verify that guineas are delicious and don't have have to be jumbos to be good eating.

Oh I am hopin... I love the eggs... best deviled eggs around... haven learned how to do the processing yet... There are pleanty of BYC'rs around here that offer up classes or walk you through the process with your own...

I agree you guys, she knows everything guinea! I admire her wisdom and have sure pm'd her a few times. Hope she is well.
On processing, its like any other poultry. Dip in hot water, pluck, and cook after the carcass rests a few days. They dont get tough like a chicken with age, they are more like a pheasant in preparation, and can be dry if not cooked low and slow.

First-time guinea keeper seeking some advice. We have had 7 keets in the brooder along with 6 chicks. I think there are 3 Pearls and 4 Lavenders. They came from the feed store on June 12.

First question - how old should they be to go out into the main flock? They are already flying around the greenhouse like little dive bombers.

Second question - if they are raised with chicks, and then both chicks and keets are integrated into the flock at the same time, do they need to be penned awhile first to know where home is? They are quite wild, but hilarious. I love watching them.

I would pen them.... they may grow fast physically but mentally the do stupid stuff... Like flying over the fence and forgetting how to get back over.... If you plan on free ranging them landing boards on top of wire fences are a big help... they can see where the top of the wire is so they can get back to the yard or run....

What sorts of troubles might I run into with guineas and chickens housed together, other than the guineas harassing roosters? I am not certain if we will keep any roosters with this new flock or not. I am planning to put up a new set of higher roosts for the guineas.

Mine are all together without issue. The only ones I house separately are the ducks {corkscrew penises are deadly to chickens}. Otherwise, the other 120ish birds are all together.
