Raising Guinea Fowl 101

My DW got really upset when I tried to use her broom. She had just gotten it tuned up and had only made one or two flights on it.

I released the older babies. Well half. I hate them. They are doing dangerous things right now. I see broken legs everywhere. I don't know how exactly but 3 are on the coop roof. 1 is around the bottom. It's overcast and early owl time and no sign of these fools finding the door. I really don't remember my other birds being so dumb. Gah. I did the long arms move. They merely fly over me. I know if I keep at it I will lose an eye by the end of the night.

The baby is walking. Nothing short of a miracle. He doesn't last long on his new legs. I imagine it will be 6 weeks before he gains any kind of age appropriate strength.

They certainly have a mind of their own and trying to get them to do anything they don't want to do is like negotiating with a brick wall. However, I wouldn't worry too much about them, they will eventually find their routine and settle in.....I've been in your same position....trying to swipe them off the coop roof with a broom, throwing stick at them to get them down from misc places....it's so frustrating and just one more reason why I try to let my hens hatch and care for the keets themselves. The good news is, if your Guineas do hatch their own keets next year, it is a much smoother process as the adults teach the little ones how things work in the first days and hopefully you won't have all the frustration!
