Raising Guinea Fowl 101

My guineas would poke my eyes out if I embarrassed them with pictures like that..

I am nearing the point of kicking my guineas out to free range... does anyone here want the guinea hen doing life in prison with no chance of parole? She is becoming a belly button and PITA to keep in prison. I may find myself inviting her to lunch soon if she does not go somewhere.

What is she doing time for? Can you be more specific as to what crimes she is charged with? I would take her and add her to my reformed Guinea flock, but with not knowing what kinds of atrocities she has committed, I can't be sure that she wouldn't lead my non-corrupt pack astray! Plus, it looks like your in Minnesota and I'm in SE Iowa......which would be quite a drive to transport a dangerous criminal to a new halfway house!
As I side note, you might let her know that if she doesn't shape up, she will find herself pictured in my embarrassing photoshopped Guinea pictures....that may scare her straight!

This question is a little off topic but basically I can't really live without my chickens and horses and ofc Guineas, but land over here is very expensive in e Ik so I was wondering does anyone know roughly how much per acre land is in the USA? Like around California? As I've been think I'd like to move there some day.

You can get a boat load of acres and very low taxes if you skip California and other 'trendy' areas like Illinois and New York...

If you look at land in say around the US 'Bible Belt' the cost per acre and taxes are both incredibly low, and you get nice forested land that is relatively flat...

They have mild winters and depending on the area not incredibly hot summers...

The biggest drawback is that the land is cheap because jobs are scarce and it's true 'country' living most of the time... But, that also has it's perks as most of the people down there keep to themselves and don't care what you do on your property...

I'm personally considering retirement in that area, the idea of staying where I'm at where vacant farm land can go for upwards of $100K an acre along with stupid high taxes there is simply little appeal to retire here at that cost of living in my location, that being Northern IL... I could simply move 100 or 200 miles south and cut my cost of living by 1/3 and have more...

We would welcome you in Northern Minnesota..of course we would tax you to your last cent....Us country people have to pay for the twin cities standard of living, you know...

Sorry it took so long to post these crazy photoshopped pictures that my daughter did with my guineas...my main computer was down and my ipad would not let me upload the photos. Anyway, here are the pictures you asked for. I have more, but didn't want to post them all and overwhelm everyone!

The first three are Pip....she is the one in my avatar:

This is Peep....I guess I could call him Pirate Peep!

This is Christmas Cracker (his name is, or was, Cracker.....he got eaten a predator last year

Thanks so much for sharing the pics. They are adoreable. I've had my laugh for the week now.

Her crimes are many. Her greatest joy in life comes from leading unsuspecting guineas to the ditch along the county road and getting them to cross in front of vehicles until they get hit. Then she laughs at the dying birds.

She lead a coup that ended in a dead guinea, her last leader. She is the only survivor of my original guineas. She started doing these bad behaviors with last years hatch and I sentenced her to life in prison. Since that time the other guineas avoid the road. Do not pick on the other birds too much. Have no staged a coup. They are almost enjoyable to have around with her locked up.

She is truly evil! I could meet you somewhere with her, if you could get the state of Iowa to accept her parole terms.

No different than Illinois where the entire state subsidizes and pays for Chicago's deficits... Heck Illinois doesn't even currently have a budget it lapsed last July, but they just continue on spending what they want when they want even with no budget or oversight, and they just adjourned their spring/summer session so no budget for next year either as the deadline is July...

That is really tempting....NOT! I do like a challenge; However, I'm not so sure that I'm up for her unique qualities! My biggest concern would be for Pip (the one in the photo-shopped pics). She broke her foot when she was young and doesn't get around well. All of my current guineas treat her well but I could see her getting picked on by your "Hell Hen", so I may have to pass for now. Plus, its my understanding that the IDGC (Iowa Dept of Guinea Corrections) Parole Board doesn't take kindly to transporting dangerous criminals into the state. Hey, here is an idea.....With all the new reality TV, maybe she could star in her own show.....it could be something like "Monster Quest: The Hell Hen", or "When Fowl Goes Afoul of The Law", or "Guinea Gestapo"!

That's craziness! We are seeing a lot of people from Chicago coming here to SE Iowa now. This has, unfortunately, brought a lot of gang activity and crime into our small farming towns! It seems like so many major cities run that way anymore.....tax the rural parts to death to pay for the big bankrupt cities!
