Raising Guinea Fowl 101

After reading everyone's replies/stories, I feel pretty lucky! I've never had chickens or any other poultry, so maybe I'm just not sure how well behaved birds act. My Guineas can act a little crazy once in a while, but overall, they are pretty well behaved!

My quality of life is so much better today with my guineas running around free hunting bugs and ticks and entertaining me with their antics. They were just under the dining room window calling to me.

I think they were saying "Nanananananana We're free you could not keep us locked up"... They have completely forgotten I was the one that opened the gate and freed them. Ungrateful buggars!

My 2 guineas are 11 weeks old and I couldn't be any happier with them. They are much tamer then my ducks and most of my chickens. My only complaint would be and I know it's because their still young is when it rains they won't go in the coop for shelter. They walk around crying in the rain. I let them in the house and they perched on the back on their chair and I covered them with a big bath towel. They sit there until they dried and it quit raining.

You let them in the house??????? Really???

Did you check your jewelry?

Yes I really do let them in the house. They come in almost everyday and stay about 10 minutes. I think they just like to visit for a while. I would trust them with my jewery well I have had Mary Jane try to take my earrings out of my ears. I don't think she would steal them she was just admiring them.

This pic was taken several weeks ago of them in their chair.

Maybe you can sneak them in when no one else is at home. Seriously they are well behaved in the house. They run down the hallway and hop up in the chair and perch on the back of the chair. They don't demand the remote control for the tv and will watch anything that you are watching. Spider does talk constantly but being inside I have to remind him to use his indoor voice. He does make a sound that resembles a machine gun but just pet him on his back and he stops.

Nothing smells quite like wet guineas. That would be the least likely time I would let them come in for a visit.
At least I would be able to follow the wet footprints to see what kind of mischief they were getting into. Most likely chasing the cat.

Or sneaking laxatives into your food, or casing the house for guns and valuables, or building a secret entrance so they can get in while you are gone, or conning you out of your credit cards, bank accounts and checkbook.

The might be sneaking knifes out of the drawers...... They can never be trusted completely..... BTW I love mine, I just do not trust them.
