Raising Guinea Fowl 101

I was just gonna ask you if yours started yet! Hopefully mine start soon!

Will you be hatching any eggs you get?

I will either hatch them or throw them at Dux. Which actually sounds like a better use for them than hatching them.

I got 2 today..

4 birds are moving tomorrow,

ok thanks. Can you eat guinea eggs? How many do they lay in a year? Probably seasonal like geese, right?

Yes they have a larger yolk to white ratio... But you have to crack them with the back of a kitchen knife they are so tough. They make GREAT deviled eggs.

Oh and the feed suggestion is what I do because the desert hear gets pretty picked clean after a while. They will eat snakes and lizards and mice too if they can catch em. of course so will the chickens.

I got my first guinea egg of the year today.

I thought you were getting rid of those critters. Congratulations, I also found my first guinea egg today. The mushrooms in the guinea pen also decided to pick this miserable cold snowy day to pop up.

Where's the FMAO icon when you need it?

I am getting rid of them. 4 go tomorrow, they will all be gone on or before the 13th.

ok. We do a lot of baking, so maybe guinea eggs would be superior for that. I will talk it over with mom, because she decides how many birds I can get, unless I pay for them! I paid for my six call ducks at an expensive rate of $12.50 each, and 41 for my peachicks I'm getting in May.

This time of year you will pay dearly for guineas...

I sold all of mine at $25 -$45 a piece depending on color. I could have sold more but happily I now live a guinea free life!
