at least yours go inside , mine are strictly tree hanging lunatics ...lol. then they yell like the dickens when it starts raining ......lol.. geezzzer ...? and i keep telling them well if you guys will go inside then you wont get wet...lol.. but on a better note they do stay a lot cleaner...lol...

Mine have no choice but to be inside. I recently moved them into their new hoop coop so they are going to be in there until after Christmas because i don't want to have to catch them again. I think by then they will have figured out that is their place. The ceiling is 10 feet so it is nice and high for them.

my goodness how do you possibly catch them...? i cant catch mine but they all do come running when i call them, so i do have some kind of control over them at least i have that,

They were roosting in another coop so i closed the pop door at night. Then i grabbed them two or three at a time and took them to the new coop. They do come when i call and they followed me into the woods to the new coop. I threw scratch inside but 2 were too wary to go in and then the dog showed up and they all freaked out and escaped. So on to plan B.

For what its worth..... Roosting in trees is not the best option... Bobcats will go right up a tree for take out... Never mind owls.

Lost guineas to both... The way I got mine to coop up was to start making a call of somesort or noise when you feed in the evening.... I Hollered Treat Treat Treat and they knew I had either millet or scratch... You could hear them muttering and jostling even way up in the rocks.. pretty soon as a flock they would fly up to the top of the house to see if i really meant it.... Then they would land in the yard and march in the coop muttering as if to say ITS ABOUT time.

Id scatter the feed a bit till the last one came in then give the rest and shut the door.

Unfortunately they are very unlike chickens... but then they havent been domesticated as long. You will have to do this every night.

The ones that stopped going up into the tree probably iether had a close call up there or a predetor took one up there.... have you done a head count?

Thank you! Once i trained my guineas to their spot they eventually went there every night, partly because that is where their feed is. I didn't have to call them. They did their screeching thing and got up on the perches. I think it is going to help having a tall coop for them to perch in.

No, they will NOT stay off the road. I don't know what it is with guineas, but they just won't stay off the road.

Guineas will also get your chickens killed. We had about 20 chickens that never went the 1000 ft to the highway from the backyard. then we got 2 guineas. The chickens would follow the guineas around for the first couple of weeks even though the guineas would pick on them and even kick their bus good sometimes. You could tell the guineas did Not like these chickens following them. So the guineas came up with a plan. KILL THE DUMB CHICKENS!

The guineas would lure the chickens to the highway and actually wait till a car was coming, knowing that when they bolted, the chickens always followed. AND WHACK! Another dead chicken in the road! In less than a month those guineas got 20 chickens killed and neither guinea got hit. BEWARE OF GUINEAS, THEY'RE KILLERS!
