I want to raise some pigeons. I was thinking of letting them share the coop w/ the chickens. But I have seen that other ppl let theirs (the ones with a homing instinct) out to rome free.

I want to know which kinds have the homing instinct.

(I won't be keeping any overly unnatural pigeons, so they won't get snapped up... Ya know?)

We have dogs that are bird dogs and I wouldnt want them to eat a pigeon. But they are old and don't chase them anymore.

Just give me advice and stuff.

Thanks.

I have homing pigeons and they do fine with the young chickens because the young are on the ground and the pigeons are on the top and when they meet they do fine I also have a english setter and she is a very good hunter. If the pigeons get out she points and chases them. My homers are trianed to go 250 miles or more.

All pigeon will home, but most breeds will get lost. When they get out of eye sight of their loft.

Some breeds like rollers and high flyer, will put on a nice show.

If you want birds that you can take miles away from home, then racing homers are the breed.
