Raising leghorn chickens

My leghorn laid her first egg at about 17-17.5 weeks. At about 15 maybe 14 weeks her comb started growing and got red, it happened so fast and was almost like it happened overnight. Before she started laying she would go into the coop and make alot of noise, different from her normal noises, scratch around like she was trying to make a nest, and ofcourse the squat.

In the picture, you can see how big her comb is, this picture was her at I believe 15/16 weeks, and after this picture was taken, her comb grew even more and hangs to the side like a hairdo, its absolutely adorable.

But like someone else said, they will likely start laying when you give up getting eggs.

Just a little update! The girls are 19 weeks today! They are starting to "squat" when u get near them. Still no eggs but I just caught one laying down in the nesting box... so maybe today?!?! 😱😱 I sure hope so 🤣 im so excited for that first egg I can barely contain my excitement hahah

Got my 2nd egg today! Unfortunately it had like no shell.. which i read is completely normal for first time egg layers.. trying to get their egg laying system figured out lol...so excited even if I can't eat it 🤣🤣

Actually if it didn't break, and you can get it to the house, you can eat it, nothing wrong with the eatable egg part, it is just a malfunction in the shell.

I have had hens for YEARS, and I still love getting the first egg. Really, I just love getting eggs each day!
