I was wondering if anyone has raised meat and layer together? Have you had any problems with the layers bullying the meat birds?
I'm planning to get 12 chicks of each (White Jumbo Cornish Cross Broilers and Golden Comets). They will be raised together from day old. They won't be free range but in the same run and coop.
Any thoughts would be helpful!

! Pleased you joined us! I've done it so I know it can be done. However, when I did so my young pullets just ate an un-medicated starter grower and by the time they were ready to be switched to layer ration, the meaties were chillin' in the freezer. I think if you do a BYC search of something like "meat bird and layers" or some such similar words, you'll probably find several old discussion threads. Oh, and it was interesting - the Cornish X grew so much faster they kinda, but not bad, picked on the pullets. And when they pullets grew up and got quick they turned the tables! Good luck to you!!

I think it would be a problem keeping food out for the layers because the meat breeds will eat everything they can find.

Thanks for the info. I did alittle search and found some info. I'm thinking that I'll try raising them together and having 2 feeders. If this doesn't work than I'll divide them and keep the meaties just in the run.
