I was just reading on Murray about Cornish X Rocks:

"Please Note: These birds are not recommended for raising at altitudes above 5000 feet."

What quick growing meat birds are good at almost 7000 feet?

I got Slow growth Red broiler from Welp... they did great. Im at 7800. Almost all the hatcheries have some sort of red broiler. They dont grow as fast as cornish X (rock)but they are much faster than non hybrid dual breeds. They generally say 10 weeks to slaughter. I never withheld feed and they are happy healthy birds with none of the more common cornish x problems.

I live at 7300 ft. altitude in CO. I've done well by ordering the Slow Grow Cornish Roasters from Murray. The first batch went very well, I lost a hen two days before taking them in to the processer (to flip). They were delicious and weighed between 5-6 lbs. dressed.
I have 25 in my brooder now, hope to process them in 10 weeks. Now if I could only figure out what breed the "free" chick is.....

sorry I didnt see this post again.

Im not sure what they weigh....Ill tell you next week.

However, if possible dont get straight run. The roos are considerably larger than the pullets.

THNX, Slinky.

Colour me confused Rootball. Are you saying we want the roos OVER the pullets

(because at first it read to me that we didn't want the roos
