Raising Meat Rabbits

Nayeil: I've found that breeders usually don't advertise that they ship rabbits. So I would recommend you to search for the best rabbits that you can find, anywhere in the country, than contact them and ask if they will ship rabbits. Sorry I can't direct you to a breeder.

It is okay. I think I found a local breeder with purebred New Zealands. I'm going on my late honeymoon next month too so I will check if there is any I should stop at on my way back =)

There is several rabbit sites that you can find online. Just search, rabbits for sale in _______. You'll find sites that have pages and pages where rabbitrys are found. I would check out the https://www.arba.net/ to find some breeders. Have fun on your honeymoon!

@misbehavin Free is always good! Any clue what breed the rabbit is? Did you get any does?

@Cowboy Alex I found local breeders through a webpage. It was annoying, I had to wait a couple days for them to send me the list but I now have a couple choices of breeders within an hour. I also found someone adverstising so I joined a web page to pm them and now its just waiting for their response. It works out great for me because I can buy unrelated rabbits to breed.

some lop Eared mix but he is big real big probably at least 10 lbs... the cage i posted with the young femals awhile ago was his when we got him, he grew at touched both sides of the 2 ft long cage with out being strechted out all the way so now his cage is about 2 ft wide and 6 ft long...he was one of those Easter bunnies people get for their kids then they grow up to be rabbits and require a lot more care.. my cages are outside except the one the newest rabbits are in.. they are so big because they have a nesting box on the end so they can get out of our harsh weather..we are currently building six new cages 3 cages wide and 2 high.. he was in his box when the picture was taken from above see the little plywood wall it is so on really harsh days they can get out of the wind etc and burrow in their straw.

You build your own cages? What type of cage wire do ya'll use and how much does it cost would you estimate? My husband is going to build me wire cages and from what I have read you need two types of cage wire but I'm wondering how many cages it will make if you get a roll of each and make 30x30 cages... I'm thinking of putting the cages in a hutch with a green roof on top to keep them a little cooler.

we bought our wire at Menards... but any lumber yard would have it. this link is to the type and size we got. http://www.menards.com/main/buildin...ed/2-x-25-hardware-cloth/p-1356871-c-5769.htm as for the cost we had alot of scrap wood laying around, and prices of lumber in all areas is different.. the new cage he is building will cost about $100 give or take. we have found its cheaper to build the cages so that the rabbits share a wall, so if you need 2 cages to house the rabbits the make them side by side so there is a wall in the middle.

wire bottom and on the front, one side we live in north west IL our rabbits are outside so that way the weather doesn't get to them as much... sun,or rain snow etc. in the summer they can get out of the sun and find a dark corner, we have an all wire one but those rabbits are inside our garage for now. our climate kinda stinks in the winter it can get well below zero and in the summer over 100 , we try to ensure the comfort of the animals at all temps. the last 2 yr we basically have had just summer and winter it stayed 40 or so until may and was still 90 in september.
